A student of the Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was shot dead during a protest on Monday.
It was gathered that the deceased had joined his colleagues, who were protesting hike in school fees, when security operatives made an attempt to disperse them forcefully.
When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalike, told DAILY POST correspondent that he will find out and revert.
It will be recalled that Kaduna State Governor had in April increased tuition fees of all state tertiary institutions by almost 500 percent, a development that had sparked a protest by students of the state university.
The university’s chapter chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Peter Adamu had said that 75 percent of the university’s students may drop out of school due to the monumental increase in tuition fees.
